Memory upgrade
I have a dimension 8100, 1.3GHz, 128 MB RDRAM.
I want to upgrade to either 256 MB or 512 MB of RDRAM.
I would imagine that the upgrade will involve sticking a little green piece of board with chips on it into the box. Will my windows recognize the increase in RAM automatically or do I have to reinstall windows? I also have Linux on a second partition. What else do I need to do besides putting the memory card into the tower?
Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you

By the way, is there such thing as 256MB+128MB=384MB of ram? Because I only see 128, 256, 512, etc. What happens if I put in 256 on top of 128 MB?

You already have 128MB (64+64). If you want 256MB, add 2 more 64MBs (64+64+64+64).
If you want 384MB add 2 128MBs (64+64+128+128).
Whatever you want just add but you must install in matched pairs.

Hi,
Here are the memory specs for your system -
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dsleest/specs.htm#memory
Your system uses RDRAM. On PIIII systems the RDRAM must be installed in matched "pairs". So .... If you want to add another 128MB you will need to buy two 64MB RIMMs.
Just install the RAM and go. No need to do anything else.
You might want to price RDRAM at http://www.pricegrabber.com .
