memory upgrade
Hello to anyone that can help me!
I'm trying to upgrade from 128 meg to 512 meg..when i boot up after putting it in, it says that the system memory has changed, but then windows wont start. It says that there is a corrupt or missing file, but when I take out the two 256s and put my 128 back, windows runs fine. Is there a step I'm missing somewhere?!
HELP!
Thanks!
Annie (I've got a Dell Dimension 2200 btw if that means anything)

It has to be memory designed for your model, not just any PC133 memory. If you post the brand and part number we can comment further.

If your new memory is SDRAM PC133 NON PARITY I would try one stick of the new memory by itself and then the other by itself. This may determine if one is bad.

Dweebiepear.
What is the brand of memory you are trying to install? If it's so-called "Value Ram" it may not work in a Dell computer.

Okay this is what the package says:
Centon Electronics, Inc. SDRAM PC133 MemoryPower - 32x64-7ns 168 pin DIMM
If this isnt the right kind I'm going to cry.

Oh, and you asked for a part number too. I think this one qualifies at a part number.
Centon CPCB-507G
Thanks!

How about the number on the package? On Centon's site, they list 256mbpc133 as the proper part. www.centon.com
I believe you have the wrong stick... Any other numbers?

Hmm..the number 256MBPC133 is on it.
That's the only other number I think!
I just tried putting one 256 stick in with my 128..and it only read the 128. Windows runs properly, but it didnt say anything about the memory changing, plus I would think I would've noticed some kind of change in speed, but alas..nothing. So I tried just one 256 with nothing else, and the computer doesnt even boot up properly, it just sort of beeps. I dont know what else to try! I'm obviously putting the 128 back in properly, because it seems to work, and I'm not doing anything different with the 256, so what's the deal?!
I'm so confused!

Hi Dweebiepear,
The maximum that a Dimension 2200 can have is 512MB, but you are trying to have more than that which is not possible. Try either with two 256MB RAM alone on the Motherboard or have one 256MB RAM in the first slot and an 128MB RAM in the second slot and definitely, system should start. Once again, on a Dimension 2200, Maximum amount of RAM the Motherboard can support would be 512MB of RAM.
All the Best!!!
Ram.

Well where do I get RDRAM if not from crucial? Is there not a store somewhere that sells it?! I dont have a credit card or anything so I cant very well buy online, plus I'd kind of like to get this stupid thing upgraded before I turn 100.
PLEASE HELP! I'LL HAVE YOUR LOVE CHILD IF YOU DO! (not really, but you can see how desperate I am)

Actually, I tried all of that and it still didnt work. I only have 2 slots anyway, so the only combinations I could do wouldnt add up to more than 512.
What is RDRAM? That's not what I have is it? This is SDRAM, is that the same thing?!
