Hi dkida
If all is connected to the sound card and you have sound, first left click on the icon of the speaker down near the clock..see that slider is up at least 1/2 way and that the mute is not checked...click a blank area of the screen to close the volume control...then right click on the same icon ..select open volume controls
this will give you access to all volume controls...see that the mute of the mike is not checked and move slider up.
hope this helps...Don

I tried what you told me to do, and it still didn't work. When I goto audio properties though, in the recording are, I selected AWE64 Wave in, but the little mircophone thing is still not colored in like the play back section

Hi
The only other thing I can think of is to go through the same steps again and at the top of some of the dialog boxes there will be an OPTIONS tab...hit this and make sure you are adjusting the [record] settings and not the play back settings.. thats all I have..
you might want to post in the audio section...
Good luck...Don
