Monitor M992, drivers needed?

Question

Hi, Can anyone help, please.  I recently reformated my desktop's C drive.  I've reinstalled everything I can find.  I'm running XP & the Dell monitor is M992. Unfortunately since then when I go into settings, Advanced , monitor, it says default monitor & the properties area cannot be clicked on.  Is this beacause I havnt installed drivers for the monitor (I cant find that disk). The problem is that in order for web pages to fit on to the screen I have to have the adaptor mode set to 1042 x 768 but then the colours are awful. I've downloaded the drivers for this monitor from the Dell website but there doesnt sem to be an applicaton to run, just instrustions to put in the monitor driver CDs that I dont have. Can anyone help? Thank you

Open Device Manager, right-click on the monitor, click on the 'Update Drivers' tab, 'Browse' to wherever you downloaded the drivers, and double-click on the file it's looking for (it should be the only one visible?) :emotion-55:

In Windows XP, Device Manager can be found in Control Panel/System/Hardware :emotion-5:     BTW:  You shouldn't have marked the problem as 'solved' yet, because it hasn't been :emotion-2:

Hi, Thank you - found Device Manager but there really is no 'monitor' there.  I realise there should be, doesnt seem to make sense as 'mouse' & 'keyboard' are there........ Any ideas??

Were you ever able to resolve your problem? I have the very same issue - reinstalled XP on Dell Dimension 4600 with M992 monitor, and no listing for monitor in device driver, nor the ability to click on shaded out Properties tab in Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Monitor.

Anybody have a solution to this very frustrating problem?

You're saying there's no 'Monitors' category in Device Manager!?

Try downloading/installing these <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> drivers, to see if they help?

But you might want to follow the advice offered in the 'Drivers Installation' section of this 'Quick Setup Guide'?

It's a PDF document, so you'll need a PDF reader installed - i.e. Adobe Reader or FoxIt Reader.
