mouse pointer moves on its own
hey!!!!
i have a simple logitech ps2 2 button mouse with a scroll button in the middle since the past 2 yrs.my mouse seems to have a mind of its own.the pointer suddenly moves wherever it wants to and the the pointer vanishes for a few seconds then comes back on.keeps doing it so often that it has bcom impossible to use the mouse now.scanned for viruses.reinstalled drivers.did not help.the only thing that helps is banging the mouse twice on the table and then everything seems ok for a while!!!!...but of course that is something i dont want to do.what can be done about this?is it a s/w pblm or a h/w pblm?.

This would seem to indicate a hardware problem within the mouse itself, possibly a loose circuit or faulty wire. You should try replacing the mouse with a new unit ( via email if your system is still under warranty).

Yeah replace the mouse. Sounds like a faulty mouse. It's unfortunate, but it happens.

I just received my new DELL 8300 on March 31, 2004 and am already noticing this same problem. The mouse suddenly jumps left and up (for example), when I'm moving it right. The mouse I received - according to the bill of lading - is a logitech, so I would say you're out of luck on that one. From what I'm seeing (from other threads as well) this is an ongoing issue for many people. It's been speculated that the video card driver is the actual problem but this has been proven false. A DELL forum moderator suggested disabling hyperthreading in the BIOS...again, false. I think DELL should send out a new mouse to everyone that is having this problem (and not the same type either) if they aren't going to determine the cause. I have owned a DELL since early 1999 and this is the first time I've seen so many being given the run-around for an obvious issue.
Hopefully, DELL soon lives up to the respect I have for them...I could really use a new Microsoft Optical Trackball.

Those drivers are native to XP and there apparently is no way to get them on disk.
To clarify: the mouse I have just says "DELL". The shipping invoice, however, says that I was shipped a mouse made by Logitech. When I went to Logitech to get the most recent mouseware, the setup process said that I don't have a mouse supported by mouseware. So, most likely I have the same type of mouse that you have.
I had (have) other money related issues with this order so maybe I'll be able to swing a deal with them. This was my first ever unsatisfying experience with DELL in the past 5 years. This mouse issue just makes it worse.

so if you have windows xp the mouse will work with no drivers installed?
Yeah i was wondering that myself. Everywhere i see this mouse is called a logitech but just says dell. What is the actual logitech mouse dell offers (the one thats +$49). The mouse i bought from them was an extra $30 from the standard ball mouse.
