{moved} Computer will not power on
Over the past few days, I discovered that after leaving my computer on but not attended, I returned to find that it was off. I pushed the power button and the gray screen cam on saying that windows had shut down and asking if I wanted to start normally. I chose normal start and it continued to power up and start Windows Vista normally and everything seemed to work normally. When I tried to start Outlook, it said that the data file had not closed and would start after checking for errors. Then everything worked normally. I have no problems with the programs or with my monitor. We have not had any power interuption in the house, and the computer is plugged into a battery backup. ( Plan to try plugging it directly into a power source, but do not thin that that is the problem since the monitor is getting power.)
Today the computer would not power on at all. I push the power button on the front of the Inspiron 530 and it lights for a second and then goes off. I unplugged the power cord, waited 30 seconds, pushed the power button on the front of the CPU (still with the cord unattached) 2 times to discharge the capacitor. The power light did not com on then. Next I plugged the power cord back into the CPU and still could not get it to power on. The light on the front of the computer cam on for only a second and then went off. It never gets to start the power on sequence or boot sequence. I do not hear a fan blowing.
I suspect a power supply problem, but could it be something else? A number of years ago I had to remove and replace a power supply for our office computer.
What is the next step to diagnose this and fix it, since it is out of warranty?

I returned from my office where I had posted the above problem, re-plugged in the power cord and everything started OK. Still concerned that this might shut down on its own again and want to further diagnose the problem. Where do I go from here?

Hi Raboatman,
It’s good to know that your computer is working now. I’d suggest you to run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.
Also, I’d advise you to look into the ‘Power Lights’ and ‘Beep Codes’ pattern given in the link below for any future issues with the computer.
