Multimedia Audio and Ethernet Controllers

I formatted my hard drive.... re-installed Windows XP and all of the drivers that came with my computer from the cd's (and I mean all of them!)... and downloaded all of the Microsoft updates including SP3.  I also ran Dell driver reset tool and it's tellling me I need to install drivers for... 1) Ethernet Contoller and 2) Multimedia Audio Controller.  I can hear the windows theme when I "log on" to windows and that's all of the sounds I can hear.  My DSL connection works through the USB but not the ethernet connection.  What can I do to get the correct "controllers" to rectify both problems.  I can't find anything on the Resources CD or the downloads section at support.dell.com about multimedia audio or ethernet controllers.  Thanks for any help!!

Go back to Dell Support, under driver downloads you need to install the Chipset( Intel Software Installation Utility ) driver first then RESTART you comp, then install the Audio driver, if you reinstall Windows you need the Chipset driver to be installed before Windows to tell Windows what it needs to install and the multimedia problem means you need the Audio driver.

Set a System Restore Point before installing each driver just in case

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the help.  I had actually already ran the Chipset, but failed to re-install the video driver.  It solved the problem... your advice was "music to my ears!!!"

Any ideas about the ethernet problem?  I can run DSL through the USB but not the ethernet cable.  The USB is a slower connection.  There wasn't any ethernet driver software that came with my computer.

Thanks again,

Hootie

I finally figured out which network driver to install and it fixed the problem with the ethernet connection.  I've never used a community forum, but I'm finding it to be a useful tool for troubleshooting.  Thanks for helping.
