This is a common thing for people to say. If you cannot find drivers you arent looking very hard IMHO.
Average takes about 30 seconds to find the drivers.
Typically there are 3 choices. Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio
Release Title: Audio: Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.5.12.01.3555, A09 Release Date: 04/29/2003 Description: ADI Onboard Sound Driver Multiple System.
It is the GX270. I had installed the entire suite of drivers in the recommended order, so that should not be the problem. I was able to "solve" the problem with a quick run down to Fry's and purchase a USB sound card. Considering that this was not my workstation, that it had XP and that this machine doesn't have much practical life left, I decided to get pragmatic on it.

IMHO, I have spent over two hours, have tried all three of those drivers and still no luck. I have checked the bios and audio is on.
