Multimedia Audio Controller
|
Computer Dell Dimension 2100
I have just reinstalled XP using the disc that came with the machine. Now I have no Audio, When I look at the Device Manager, everything is OK with the exception of yellow question marks on the Multimedia Audio Controller The Driveer tab indicates there is no driver. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Bill |

Hello William,
As the Operating System has been reinstalled, we need to install the drivers for the computer.
Please click the link provided below to download and install the drivers.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/dimension-2100
Choose the Operating System and download the drivers for the audio which is there on the computer.
Once installed, restart the computer, check the functionality.
That should fix the issue. Please let me know the results.

I had mistyped- the machine is a Dimension 2400. Iwent to the site you suggested but for the 2400 and found nothing for the Multimedia Audio Controller. Going back to the Devive Manager, I found the driver's name Realtek AC97. I downloaded this from the Realtek site and on installation, I was warned that it did not have a Micrsoft signature. I proceeded anyway and my machine was shut down. Bill

Hi,
I would request you to provide more few details.
-- What exactly is the issue that you are facing?
-- Do you get audio or is it no audio at all?
-- Which sound card listed in Device Manager?
To go to Device Manager: Click Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager.
-- Is there any Yellow exclamation or Red X beside the sound card in Device Manager?
I would also request you to post the screen shot of the device manager to understand the issue better.
Please write back, would be glad to assist further.

Thank you. Your first answer works for me. I've a Dimension 4600, and I just changed the code to 4600 instead of 2400, run, install, restart, and I've sound again. This saves me time, $, and reassures myself that I can fix my own PC.
