Need help installing a fan
Hello
The fan on my graphics card (nvidia geforce 9500 gt) has died and i am trying to replace it with a fan i got out of an old power supply box that was never used. Both the new and old fan plugs are 2p plugs but have different fittings so the new fan can not plug into where the old one was. The new one is bigger so i plan just to aim the fan at the card. I searched the interior of my computer for somewhere else to plug the fan in and all i could find were 2 3p plug-in but those did not work.
I have a dell inspiron 530 intel core duo 2.66Hz, 64nit operating system, 6.00GB and an upgraded power supply that has a max of 700W so power should not be a problem.
Can anyone please help me? I'm trying to fix this with just what i have and not going out and buying something.
Without the fan, my graphics card overheats too easily and will cause my computer to go into power save mode which requires me to turn my computer off then on to fix it.

Success! I got it to work. I pried off the plastic fitting of the female plug on the graphics card where the old fan use to be plugged into leaving just the two metal prongs. Then i just slipped on the new fan plug easily without the conflicting plastic fittings in the way. I turned on the computer and it works fine.
Thank you for your original suggestion, but i do not have the soldering equipment to properly put the wires together. Plus your suggestion to expose the wires led me to think that i could just pull off the plastic fitting like i would pull off insulation of wires so thank you

Seriously dude just get a new card. The fans are different and the fan on the card is variable by the cards bios. You power supply is beefy enough to accommodate a wide range of new cards.

alright thx, i was thinking about getting a new one but i didnt really want to spend the money. I guess i would inevitably need a new one anyway cause mine is a little outdated. I just wanted a quick fix, but i guess thats not gonna happen.

I'm going to try messing with it for a while and if it doesnt work then ill just get a new one, but the two fans are 12v, the old one is .2A and the new one is .19A so it should work and the old fan is 5.5cm and the new one is 7.5cm. I was just going to aim the fan at the card. I just wanted to know if i could somehow plug it into one of the plugs i found, but i guess not. I would post photos but this wont let me paste them in with the text and i personally dont know how to add them into this thread

Well actually i just slipped off the plastic connector that was attached to the graphics card, the metal prongs that were in the connector on the card are soldered completely through the card so they were well attached, sturdy, and were not susceptible to being damaged as i slipped of the connector. Once the connector was off, the prongs were left. and looked like this www.mahsanelectric.net/.../mahsan-prd03.html on the card.
Then i plugged the new fan's connector into the prongs (the plug of the new fan looks like this www.alibaba.com/.../MOLEX_2510_2P_PLUG.html)
This was a perfect fit because the prongs resembled the plug that the new fan's connector was originally plugged into. So now it works fine and i just need to get it situated right in my casing.
Thanks for the help, if i could have soldered then i would have.
