Need help upgrading CPU

Question

I've got a Dell Deminsion with a Intel P4 2.8 meg processor. I've come across a P4 3.4 meg from another Dell -- an Optiplex, (dead) so I swapped them. On booting up, I was put into safe mode. The new CPU is recognized by in the Bios and in XP, but I can't boot to normal. My motherboard is 800 mhz, so it can handle the 3.4. Any ideas on how to make this work? What am I doing wrong? Is the upgrade worth it? Thanks in advance for your wisdom, Dieter

What model Dimension and what model Opti?

Dimension 4700, don't know about the Opti but its from last year. Thanks,   Dieter

It sounds like there's a good chance the Opti was scrapped because of a faulty CPU.
