Need Help with Defrag

Here is a mind boggling question at least for me. Why does my Defrag constantly keep reseting itself and then continues on with where it left off. It does this about eight time before it is completly finished? HOW ANNOYING

Yes it is an annoying thing. Try scandisk first that should find errors and should fix them and should stop defrag from restarting all the time. if that don't don't work scandisk using through. But don't do through frist since it takes REALLy long ... Standard should do the job.

STILL can't defrag post i'll try to help you

You probably have something running in the background, anti virus or Norton real time monitors, that keep changing the info on the disk while defrag is trying to do its thing. Try running defrag from safemode and it should run faster.

Before you defrag, turn off any screensavers. Then use the ctrl + alt + del keys to shut down everything that is currently running except systray and explorer. Now you can run defrag without any hassles. Just in case you hav'nt used those keys before, make sure you are choosing 'end task' while highlighting each program until they are all gone.

Maybe you are running Windows task scheduler. Double check your task scheduler settings.

Hi,

Rather than using the Close Program app which is limited to ending task on one app at a time, consider downloading and installing EndItAll. This freeware app will end task on all apps it considers safe to do so on at one time. Anything it has a question on will need to be ended manually. Disable your background antivirus scan by using the icon in the system activity tray to disable it. Leave Explorer (Windows) and SysTray (should you have it installed) running.

HTH,

Kay

Do it from safe mode, that way nothing is running while you defrag
