USB disk failure is quite common. ST350032 0AS USB Device, Iomega Corp. 465.65 GB

Buying another computer is not going to fix this issue.  Sounds like Delayed Write Failure you lost everything forever.

"{Delayed Write Failed}

Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HardDiskVolume"

This issue may occur if you do not stop the USB 2.0 storage device by using the Unplug or Eject Hardware feature before you unplug the device from your computer. If you do not stop the device before you unplug it from your computer, all  files and folders that are cached by the file system and that are used to improve performance will be lost forever.

When you stop a device before you unplug it, the cached information is flushed, and any pending input/output operations can finish correctly.

"Sounds like Delayed Write Failure you lost everything forever."

99.999% unlikely.  If you need/want this data recovered, it can be recovered ... 1) possibly by yourself if you are tech savvy, 2) possibly by a local PC shop, and 3) possibly ONLY by data recovery professionals.  The likelyhood of recovery is near 100% with a professional, but the cost is quite high; it depends on how much you want/need it back and/or how much you can afford to pay to get it back.

I would recommend in the future that external drives be used to backup data on your main drive(s) - kept only as a second copy.  If you need more space, get another/larger drive rather than moving data to an external.

Sorry typo, I've had the dimension 3000 for over five years.

I use the 570, and found nothing wrong with it, but the 570 is a upgrade to the dim 3000.

I got two answers, yes I lost all the data and no I didn't lose all the data. Which one is it? When I plug in the unit I hear a sound letting me know that the computer has detected the device but it doesn't show up when I click on my computer in the start menu. Also could you please let me know if the dell inspiron 570 is an improvement over the dimension 3000 which I've for over three years.

Thank you  RobinBrendin. I see you read the entire article by your answer. I feel so stupid asking all these questions but my knowledge about computers is limited, as to none.  Why is it that when I plug in the unit, iomega storage unit to the computer, I hear a sound letting me know that the computer has detected the device but it doesn't show up when I click on my computer in the start menu? Is there any way I can fix this so I can access the iomega device through the computer? Thanks for the info on the 570, it helped a lot, I think this computer is on it's last leg, Thanks in advance.

I have seen devices that have a corrupted windows status because they were not stopped by the "safely remove hardware" before they were physically disconnected.

 This may not be your problem but worth investigating.  Physically connect the unit to the PC.  Then go to the Device Manager and if the status is corrupted there will be an "unknown device" listed in the USB listing.  RIGHT click on the entry for the unknown device and then LEFT click and select "uninstall".  Then physically disconnect the device from the PC.  Restart the PC, wait until Windows has finished starting then connect the device, and if this was the problem you will see Windows will "find new hardware" and reinstall the device.

If you are still interested in recovery progress I will look for the recovery software, since I need to recover a few hard drives myself, I had 1 some time ago with which I was able to recover all data from formatted (by mistake) hard drive without any problems and quite easy, but as long as I remember was an expensive one. Basically, all recovery software cost money, it is all about how much important your staff is to you, the cheapest is about 30 USD and the best about 700 USD, I think I borrowed one of the best ones, I will look, just let us know.

This is the code and answer I get for both the pci input device and the multimedia controller. code 1 this device is not configured correctly.  They both have yellow flags.  What can I do?
