NO POWER...

I have a Dimension 4550 that is just out of warranty. The other day I went to turn it on and to my surprise nothing happened. It seems to be getting no power. I put a call into Dell support and they walked me through troubleshooting it. They said that because there is a green LED on the motherboard that is lit the power supply is good and the motherboard must be bad. I just got a new motherboard shipped form Dell for $130 ish and installed it. Same symptoms... no power. My thoughts are power supply or switch. Has anyone had this happen or is it true that if the LED on the board is lit then the power supply is good??

Thanks,

Just check if you turn on the system does the fan in the power supply turn-on. do you get some air of noise coming out of it. If the fan is not spinning in the power supply then the power supply is damged. Try to check if the LED lights on the drives turnon or are blinking. The motherboard LED may be still on even if the Flea power (very little power) is there in the system. so if you have changed the motherboard then the problem lies in the power supply. Just these thing and let me know....

Bob,

I'm having the same issue with my 4600. Just out of warranty, no power. Did you figure out what the problem was? I don't think it's the motherboard.

Thanks,

Jim

It turned out to be the power supply that was bad. I was able to return the motherboard.
