Noise

Just installed my new DELL. having fun, but there's one thing that I haven't been able to do and that is turn down or off the noise my tower makes when I'm connecting to the Internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Daphne1234;

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-Modems, and on the General tab in modems, click on the Properties button there. You'll find a volume control to turn the modem audio up or down.

The previous method to silence the modem sound works in most cases but with AOL
a different approach is sometimes necessary:
Step 1---Log off AOL
Step 2---At the AOL sign-on window, click [SETUP].
Step 3---Next, click [EXPERT SETUP].
Step 4---Click on the [DEVICES (MODEMS, ETC.)] tab.
Step 5---Make sure the modem you are using is highlighted and click [EDIT].
Step 6---Again, make sure your modem is highlighted. Now change [SPEAKER
VOLUME] to OFF.
Step 7---Click [OK].
Note: This is also the procedure to edit your modem’s commands.

Gee, Chuck, I guess the trick is to click on those profiles and find out what they're using! ;-) Had I seen that "AOL," I most probably would have run screaming in the other direction. Yet another example of "The Big A's" way of making the simplest tasks more annoying.

Thanks for your input everyone, but Chuck receives the kudos, as I can now sign on to AOL in peace

Can you imagine the future of cable and wideband service if/when they are dominant there? Get out the tin cans and a long piece of string. Oops, did I give away a proprietary hardware secret of AOL? Sorry.
