Not Reading Floppy Disk Drive

My floppy disk drive on my Dimension XPS T600r canot be read. It does not appear when I click My Computer. I have done the following:

1. Taken out floppy disk drive and tested on another computer. Result: the Drive works.

2. Tried a working floppy drive from another computer in my Dimension: Result: it does not work.

3. Changed the connecting cable with one I know is working: Result: does not solve problem.

4. What other tests should I run? If it is a motherboard problem (the controller)  can this be fixed without sending the whole computer to Dell at enormous cost?

Grateful for any help on this.

EamonX1,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Boot to the BIOS and check to make sure that the controller is enabled and that detection is set to auto. If this does not clear the problem then most likely cause is a dead controller.

Thanks a million. The drive is back working. The BIOS settings were wrong. I entered Setup and corrected them. All is now well.
