Notepad
When I boot my XPS 8500 about half way through it opens a blank notepad screen and will not proceed until I close it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it is doing this and how I can stop it? I am running the updated Windows 8.
I have tried all of your ideas with no luck. Notepad still opens during the second half of the boot sequence. I am really getting frustrated with this annoying problem. Please, someone help.
Thank you.

Always include version of Windows in your posts.
Have you scanned thoroughly for malware recently?
If this is Windows 7, read this.

Have you scanned for malware?
For Windows 8.1, read the post by RajithR in this thread at the Microsoft forum.
Seems you're not alone with this problem...

In additional to running a malware scan, you can open up the task manager, go to processes, and end the notepad.exe process for a temporary fix.
