nvidia 6800

Just got my Dimension 8400 with the nvidia 6800 graphics card---  what I am wondering (and hoping I can do) is the following (more questions I'm sure to come in the up coming weeks, please help if you can :) )....

My first thing I'm wondering is if it's possible to hook up this card to a HDTV with component video and if so how?  Are there new drivers for this?  What kind of cable should I get to do this?  Do I "have to" use a transcoder to do this?

Has anyone been able to do this?  If so please let me know how you did as I would really like to do it but don't want to spend the more money on a transcoder to do this if I don't have to, thanks in advance for any help you all can give....... :)

I have been trying to get some feedback on this too!...
So HERE IS MY QUESTION (similar to yours):

WHAT/HOW DISPLAY the BEST VIDEO out of my DVDs (e.g. upconvert from 480), movies, and TV video using my HTPC. I have a 27' HD ready syntax (it displays 1080i through component video but smaller resolutions through DVI). The DVI input can achieve a max resolution of 1440x788 (higher than 720p, but not as high as 1080i) and native is 1280x720.

I am not sure which would be the best way to hook up my computer to my hd-lcd and why it would be better, I am confused too.

what I have learned is more confusing..... Maybe some more experienced can help us newbies and really teach us what the heck we need to do:
Some of the knowledgable geeky people seem to believe using component video adapter to the dvi video card to a HDTV with component video input is the best way to conect your HDTV to your computer.

There is also a group that argues that DVI vs Component depends on many things:

SO I am confused also as to what the best connection is for our video cards to our LC/DVDs.

I was on the avs thread and found some very helpful information and thnk I figured it out and wanted to post for people.

Thanks everyone, starting to make sence. I thought that if the monitor could do higher resolutions that obviously that would be good to force that using powerstrip or a default hardware/driver combo that could support it.

But I guess your saying that the image just wont look that good, even thought that res might be supported by the lcd and video card, because of its not the "native resolution" of the LCD so the LCD will accept that res, but downscale it regardless.

So for all the other people asking out there about their LCD monitors and are confused as to why they dont want to use their max resolutions but use the smaller native resolutions. Or people that are confused as to why their HDTV has a 1080i input but people say to use the smaller native resolution.

I found this relative link which I think explains it well.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/maximum_resolution.htm

So the answer is the easy answer only look at native resolution of the monitor and your video card capabilities to do that native resolution then go through dvi. Even though my LCD is advertised as being able to HD ready and can process 1080i signal through the progressive DVD inputs, any 1080i signal would be downscaled. Bummer... I feel like I got a bit ripped off, not knowing this. I hope this helps other people.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! VERY HELPFULU forum, if other people have suggestions for me I'ld love to hear them!
