NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio doesn't work
This is most likely an issue with the card and not the PC but I thought I'd just check to see if anyone could help on here.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 PC and recently added an EVGA 8800GS video card (this came with an 8600GT).
I play the older game Starcraft occasionally, and I have a widescreen monitor. When I first installed it on this PC, it would stretch out the screen horizontally to fill up the entire monitor, which looked terrible. Then I found the fix: right-click the desktop, click NVIDIA Control Panel, choose Change Flat Panel Scaling, and enable Use NVIDIA Scaling With Fixed-Aspect Ratio. This worked great on the 8600GT, and the game maintained its original aspect ratio. It stayed in the middle of the screen, and I had black bars on the left and right sides of the monitor, as it should be.
But with the new 8800GS, I enable that scaling option and it doesn't work. It still stretches out the screen horizontally. Any suggestions?

Do you have your monitor drivers installed, or generic monitor drivers?
There should be resolutions available to you which are the proper resolutions to rill the screen without any stretching of the image.
Are you using your monitor's native resolution (the max resolution it will run at)?

The monitor drivers are installed, and I am using the native resolution of 1680x1050. I'm not quite sure what your second sentence means exactly.
On my old video card the fixed aspect ratio worked perfectly... as soon as I load up Starcraft it has the correct aspect ratio, with black bars on the left and right sides. Seems odd that a new video card would have a problem doing this.

1680x1050 is the correct resolution to fill up the monitor at its native resolution.
Apparently you are running starcraft at a lower resolution which is requiring you to resize the display and pick the right aspect ratio.
Is 1680x1050 not an option in startcraft? You should always run games at native resolution if at all possible for less eye strain.
