NVIDIA Startup Message Problem

I recently downloaded the most recent NVIDIA driver for my 8250’s GeForce4 MX 420 w/TV Out (XP Home w/SP 1).  I very closely followed the instructions on this site for uninstall, driver cleaner, and install.  Everything seems to be operating OK except for one persistent problem.  Every time I start or restart, before I can get to the desktop, I get the following message on an NVIDIA screen background:

Previous Drivers Found

A previous driver has been detected.  To ensure proper installation of the new graphics driver, it is necessary to uninstall the current driver.

After the system restarts, the installation of the new graphics driver will begin automatically.

Etc. etc. etc.

Click Yes to uninstall or No to exit Setup.

                      Yes      No

No matter what I do, I always get the above message before I can get to my desktop.  Any suggestions on why this happens and how can I eliminate it before I can access my desktop?

I'm new to this forum.  Many thanks in advance for your help… dabronxboy

Go there, http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_video&message.id=80632

and follow the steps.

Had the same issue myself and it worked fine (except for the "unsufficient power" error messages I get regularly, but I guess it is not related in any ways)

Hope it hel.

Hi Ngiax,

Many thanks for your advice.  Unfortunately, the directions you suggested are the exact ones I used to download the new NVIDIA driver.  I even went through the process a few times, but still get that mysterious message before I can get to my desktop.

Thanks again... maybe I'm just doomed to live with the message every time I boot up.

Sincerely... dabronxboy

Maybe it has something to do with XP SP1? I have Dimension 8400, XPpro SP2, geForce 6800. I downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia site (v66.93) and just ran the downloaded exe. I never bothered to remove the old drivers and haven't seen any error messages or had any problems.

Perhaps you could roll back to the old driver, and then do the driver cleanup again?
