opening program change??
I have downloaded several things from the HP webside called Printsville. When I download them, they are saved in Word format and only open as ASCI codes. I need to save these as an Acrobat document, but can't seem to find out how to change the format. This is probably a simple thing, but I just can't change the opening program. I never get a screen asking for a choice, it just automatically opens in WORD. Thanks for your help.

1. Open Acrobat
2. After it's opened click on 'File > Open'.
3. Change the 'files of type' section on the bottom to 'All Files (*.*) then browse to where the file was saved and open it in acrobat reader. Once it's open in Acrobat do a 'File > Save As' and re-save the documemt in .pdf format.

The things you have downloaded have a .pdf extension. They should have opened automatically in Acrobat Reader (which I assume you have). If they don't you can reassociate them with Acrobat by clicking on one to select it (in Windows Explorer), then Shift-right-click and choose "Open With.." from the menu that appears. Scroll down and select Acrobat Reader, then check the box that tells Windows to always use this program to open this file type. That should fix the problem.

Reinstalling Word won't help, the association is there. You might be able to recover your "Open With" command in the context menu using the corrections described here. Just to reiterate, you click the file name (left-click) to select it before you shift-right-click to get the context menu with "Open with" in it. Also note that if you select it and just right-click (without the Shift) the Open With context menu will not appear.
Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java.
