Operating System Not Found

I'm running a Dell Dimension XPs T450 with Windows 98. The machine has worked perfectly since I purchased it more than six months ago. However in the last few months, when powering on the system I frequently get the "DOS" prompt "Operating System Not Found." All that seems to be required is a simple re-boot, but that's obviously not the best solution.

Any suggestions?

You have updated your virus program, and run a thorough scan, right? Any new software, or hardware? Have you done your scandisk and defrag regularly?

Ginny,

By coincidence, I just updated my virus within the last few days. I also re-ran system setup, and "retold" setup to look to A drive, then C drive for the boot up information. After a "save-and-exit" and a restart, the system appears to be working.

I'm curious about viruses. Any known viruses that may have been causing this kind of problem?

Thanks,

Tom

I haven't heard of many instances lately, but the Chernobyl virus was said to give that message. I hope it isn't that, it is a really nasty bug.....

Thanks, Ginny.

The system appears to be working fine now.
