OS loading problem on Dimension 4550

My PC keeps locking up so I reformatted the hard drive.  Now the CD drive will not recognize the operating system CD.  I keep getting the error message "Invalid System Disk  Replace the disk and then press any key".  What am I doing wrong?

Do you have a floppy disk in the a: drive?  If so, remove it.  Is your BIOS set with the CD-ROM drive as the first drive in the boot sequence?  If not, go into the BIOS and change the boot sequence to boot from the CD-ROM drive first.

I assume you are using an original cd here.

NT, XP, ME, 2000, W98SE are all bootable. Are you using one of those ?

If so, maybe the cdrom or the drive do not recognise it. Can you check that on another pc ?

Thank you for the assistance, I appreciate it.  The problem ended up being the boot sequence in BIOS.  For some reason I had to disable the floppy drive before the Windows CD would boot in the CD drive.
