Please tell me more about this firefox. Please understand I am terrible with computers so this is a daunting task to say the least. What will Firefox do for us? Thanks so much for replying.

Firefox is an internet browser, it allows you to visit websites, search for stuff, etc... It is much better then Internet Explorer are the SBC browser

zuzumon,

Firefox is just another browser. Are you presently using the system which you are having trouble with? If so, what do you mean by "Now I can connect to the internet fine but I am unable to download the regular sbc browser software and do anything on the web." What are you trying to do on the Web?

Yes, I tried to uninstall Norton as per the tech support advice. I think you are right on the money. Will firefox provide me with protection or do i need to do something in addition?

Denny,

I am not on the system with the trouble. We have a home ofice all connected wirelessly to the web. My signal strength is fine and it will go to my sbc omepage for example but from there I can read my mail but it won't let me do anything else with it. If I double click on the internet explorer icon nothing happens. When I scroll down to the bottom of the sbc homepage to download the software it goes to the download page and that's where it stops. I believe that when I initially tried to download the sbc security stuff it conflicted with the norton remnants already in there and now it's like a standoff. I am unable to do anything else. thanks for your patience.

zuzumon,

I assume that Norton has been uninstalled. By any chance are there two firewalls active on your system now (XP's Internet Connection firewall and another). That can cause odd behavior similar to what you are seeing.
