Please Help with Boot Error: CONFIGMG

I am running Windows 98 (2nd ed.) on an XPS T600. Whenever I boot up I get the following error message "While initializing device CONFIGMG: Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer." Upon restart, I can only boot to Safe Mode. I used to get past this by shutting down from Safe Mode, turning off the juice for a while and trying later. This time, nothing has worked. I read something on the Microsoft website and they recommended a BIOS upgrade. I just upgraded from A07 to A11, but the problem persists. Microsoft also suggested disabling external cache in the CMOS as a workaround. I have no idea how to do this, and I'm hoping there is an easier solution. Does this have something to do with the video card? Mine is NVidia's GeForce 256 w/ AGP. Any ideas? Thank you.

Thanks for your help. Actually, I have seen this topic on the Microsoft website. I tried the BIOS upgrade and changing the APM setting that was recommended in this article and neither fix worked. The only other recommended steps were work-arounds. One was to change the CMOS settings for the external cache. Does anyone have any idea how I do this? The other recommended step was to change from an AGP adapter to a PCI, and I'm thinking there's gotta be a better way to address this than changing video cards. Any other thoughts, or advice on changing CMOS would be appreciated. Thanks again.
