Possible BIOS Error

What it is, when I bootup I see the Dell splash Screen. However, after that I used to see the blinking curser on the top left of the screen, now I dont. What I do see is my BIOS in writing, it only lasts for about a second. I have never had this before, is this a warning that i am going to have problems with my BIOS. Thanks

Hello RobinBredin, When the blinking curser appears, the BIOS is attempting to pass control on the system to the OS.

You may just have an issue with the OS, and not the BIOS.

I would make sure I kept a current updated backup of my files, in case I had to reinstall the OS at some point in the future.

Just a thought.

Hello RobinBredin, Does the system continue to boot into the desktop normally?

Do you have the latest BIOS update?

The latest BIOS update from the Dell site for your system shows:

Release Date:  7/16/2008

Version:  1.0.15

It would be hard to say why it changed, but if you don't have the latest version I would suggest downloading and doing an update for the BIOS.

The BIOS listed did show some improvements.

Hope this helps.

Hi Hanspuppa, Yes it does continue to load, I do have the latest BIOS version 1.0.15. I have had that on the system for some time, it only been playing up the last couple of days.

Hi, Hanspuppa, It is hard to say what is going on there, I was thinking of reinstalling the BIOS. But, I changed my mind just in case i mucked it up. But Ill  keep an eye on it, if it gets worse I will reinstall the OP, if that does not cure it, then I will have to reinstall the BIOS.

Hello RobinBredin, That is the approach I would be looking at also.

If the BIOS is corrupted, updating it might not be succesful and render the system unusable.

If you have to, I would do the OS and see if that resolves the issue.

Just a thought.
