power options

Question

I just brought a 8200 dell computer I am having problems with the power options. My montior does not always turn off after I set it to 25 min. I have no screen savers turn on. Sometimes it works fine and other times it will not work at all. The only thing I have check is turn off montior after 25 min. The other things are never. Is there a way to fix this problem.
I have windows xp and even when I restore it back to the day it worked fine I still have problems.

Did you install any new programs just before it stopped working? I downloaded an "aquarium" screen saver that was recommended on this board, and soon began experiencing the same problem with the monitor not shutting down, even though I just looked at the aqarium screen saver, and used a different one. The screen saver site claimed a bug in 8.1 DirectX caused this problem. Uninstalling the program resolved the issue for me.

I am not sure. I think I installed adobe photoshop but I uninstalled it this morning but I still have the same problem.I have called dell support but they want me to pay ode tech. support for windows xp since I have it more then 90 days which I am not willing to do. I believe I took out all files as I did a search aand deleted any files I found that belonged to that program.

I recall one instance a few years ago where I was having a problem and e-mailed Microsoft tech support. They came up with an answer, and you might give them a try. http://support.microsoft.com
