Golf,
See if anything here: http://delltalk.us.dell.com/messages/overview.asp?name=win98&page=9
is helpful. Pick up the "Power Management" thread with Bob11's remarks.
At present, my settings are working well, and I think I have determined that a major reason for power failure management may be a user's inability to remember if he clicked "standby" in the START/SHUTDOWN/ procedure. When I do click "Standby", everything seems to work. Yet sometimes I forget, I get up and walk away, thinking that I have; then when I return an hour later, my system has gone into hibernation but I can not recover.
You can check out what I wrote here: http://delltalk.us.dell.com/messages/message_view.asp?name=win98&id=zydej
in response to another poster's dilemma about his screen saver to see if anything sounds familiar.
Power management and screen savers, in my opinion, are not all that they are made out to be. I think the general opinion around Dell Talk is that Standy stinks.
Hope some of the above is useful.
