Precision 490 CPU Upgrade
I have quite a few Precision 490 workstations in my office ranging from Xeon 5050 (Dempsey) to Xeon 5160 (Woodcrest). The Dempsey based units are appreciably slower than the Woodcrests. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the older Dempsey computers with Woodcrest or even 5300 quad cores.
Will the Dempsey motherboards handle Woodcrest CPU’s?
Any advice or assistance will be appreciated.

Mine is running on 2x5355.
2x5410 doesn't work...
Have not tried L5240... I've just got few of these CPUs from eBay...

We have 4 Dell 490's that are all running 2 x Dual Core's in the 51XX Range, we would like to upgrade to Dual Quad Core's in these, they were all bought new from Dell at separate times and all came as 2 x Dual Core's the last one was bought at the end of the 490 cycle of life.Is it possible to Upgrade any 490 to Quad or only certain Motherboards? If it's Motherboard dependent does anyone know which Motherboard P/N's are Quad Capable?
Thanks in Advance!!
