It's a Dell Inspiron 531 with Vista SP1 32 bit. I'm using a SB Audigy internal card firewire port. The Audigy is recognized and working. The Firebox was working for months, then it took a dump after a Windows update. I noticed another Win update on the 14th, which is when this took another dump. I got instructions from Presonus about completely uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver and I've done all that, but still nothing. I don't know anything about a T.I. chip. What's that? How do I check it? Thanks.
What model PC? What Operating System? What Firewire interface do you have?
I tried out a Firestudio on my Vista PC as I was looking for a new recording interface (to replace an Alesis iO26) and had some problems getting it to work in Sonar 8. I returned it, after finding out Presonus didn't have Vista 64 bit drivers (they were projected to have them but no firm date and I wanted to use Vista 64 bit with Sonar 8 for recording). I now have a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Firewire recording interface and it is Vista 64 bit Compatible.
But, The Presonus is only your recording "sound card", not your regular PC sound card (right?). Is the Firewire card (I assume it's a PCI card) being detected? and working? If it is not working then whatever you have plugged in will not work either. Also, what Firewire chip is the card using? According to Presonus the T.I. chip is preferred.
The IEE 1394 Bus Controller device should be listed in the Device Manager and it may tell you what type it is. Mine is a T.I. chip and it's on my Intel motherboard.
Although the Audigy is working (what Audigy do you have?) is the Firewire port? Check the Device Manager. I had an Audigy 2 Platinum EX which had the Firewire port but it went belly up and I'm waiting on a new sound card right now. Fortunately, I have the Firewire port on my motherboard.
If the Firewire port is shown as working OK in the Device manager, uninstall it and then restart the PC and it should be detected and reinstalled.
As it was working until the Windows update, you may have to reinstall the SoundBlaster Audigy software.
Firstly, I thank you for your time and thoughts! That's awesome that you're trying to help me.
So the IEE 1394 Bus Controller is listed in my device manager. The Driver File Details say it's a OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller. It lists two driver files: C\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\1394bus.sys and C\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ohci1394.sys.
...
After I wrote the stuff above, Presonus tech support contacted me and asked me if the unit works in another computer. I downloaded the software and hooked it up to my other computer and it doesn't work there, either. I think the unit is bad. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me, bro!

Too bad, but at least you know where the problem is.
