With or without a monitor - if with - what kind?

What size hard rive?

Probably worth around $300 off the top of my head without looking much deeper. That tops. Maybe a bit cheaper for the relative. Give or take $50.

Go to e-bay and check what that model has been bidding/selling for.

With brand new warranted models with far superior specs (that will run rings around the old model) available in the $400's, I certainly wouldn't pay anywhere near $300. IMHO, $150 tops. If you can get $300, more power to you.

Wow...thanks everyone!  you all seem to be on the same page...(monitor's a 17" inch flatscreen, by the way).

Nancysax

About $250/300, I sold an 8400, P-4 3.4Ghz, with the remaining five months warranty, in July, for $475.

I agree with europa303, I wouldn't pay $300 for a used 3.5 year old PC, but then some people aren't that knowledgeable so your relative may very well pay $300.
