Problem Turning On....

I own a Dell Dimension 8100 and yesterday when i came to turn it on nothing happened.

I looked closer and i could see when i pushed the button to turn it on it flashed orange instead of turning green when you normally start up the computer. Does anyone know what this means?

Can someone help me out with this problem as a i cant do any work on it at the moment.

Thanks in advance

assuming you're not getting much life and everything turns off as quick as it turns on.  I'd try:

- remove all power, hold the power button down for 10s
- toggle the voltage switch back n forth (if you have)
- power it up see if there's any life

- swap power cables with your monitor just for the heck of it, and try
- open case, doublecheck all power cables everywhere (mainly to systme board)
- have a look at your heatsink/processor, make sure there's nothing wacky going on and it's seated
- remove anything possible (pci cards and what not) disco drives (power and data) remove memory and power on....see if you at least get a memory beep error.

then let us know.

well,

iv tried unplugging everything and held the button down for 10 secs etc and it hasnt done anything.

if i look at the back of the unit whilst i press the button the fan starts but stops almost immediately and the 4 lights dont actually come on.

all that happens is that the light inside the 'on' button flashes orange. if you have the speakers turned up, when you try and turn it on it makes a short, loud noise.

anyone got any suggestions what this mite b?

 thanks

A flashin yellow power button usually indicates a bad power supply or something wrong with the power supply.  See the following:

That seems to indicate that the power supply itself has gone bad.  Time to try replacing the power supply.

I have opened up the case and removed the power supply, re-attached it and tried to start it again but still it flashes a yellow LED at me.

i am gettin frustrated now.
