Problem with audio configuration
I've no idea what has happened but now my speakers on the computer are not working. When I open iTunes a message reads:
'iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly.'
I've tried system restore to a previous date but still have a problem. I went to adminstrative tools, click on services and tried to start 'audio sevice' (which manages audio jack configurations) but it stopped automatically. I'm at my wits end. Please help!

Unfortunately you failed to include your PC Model Number, Operating System and sound type (e.g. integrated audio or separate SoundBlaster sound card). Without that we can only offer general suggestions.
One suggestion, uninstall your sound in the Device Manager then restart and the sound will be detected and reinstalled. If it just needed "refreshed" the uninstall/Windows reinstall will take care of it.

First, there are NO drivers for analog speakers, such as you have. One obvious thing, the speakers must have AC power and be plugged in, they will not work without AC power.
Since the audio drivers seem to be missing or have a problem suggest you (1) reinstall the Intel chipset drivers, restart Windows and the (2) reinstall the sound drivers (3) Restart Windows after the sound driver installation is complete.
