The first step in trying to determine whether the problem is hardware or software related. Run the dell diagnostics on the hardware to see if everything there is fine. Once you determine if the hardware is working properly then, you need to take a look at software problems. You may have some software that is causing these issues. Try to remember what the last program downloaded or installed prior to the system locking up.
Utility Partition allows the user to access the diagnostics using the Boot Menu feature on the system during boot, F12 and then choose Utility Partition. Although all factory installed drives will include the feature, it will be particularly useful on systems ordered without removable media storage devices (RMSD). The partition may also can be used in scenarios where a customer did not purchase a ResourceCD or simply cannot locate the disc.
Dell Diagnostics Utility is a hardware 32-bit diagnostic program that available on the Utility Partition. Press F12 and select Boot to the Utility Partition to start Dell Diagnostics. Dell Diagnostics is also shipped on the Dimension Resource CD. It can be launched by booting to the Resource CD.

Your issue sounds more software than it does hardware. If the system is freezing while on dsl and only on yahoo. When you hit control alt and delete what program are you ending task on that solves the problem?
