Problem with Dell Solution Center

I have a Dimension 4100 which I've only had for 3 wks. After the 1st week while exploring what's on this computer, I was on the Dell Solution Center site. I clicked on Education, then Take a Tutorial and it asked me if I wanted to download so I said yes (from current location). It started downloading and then the download window kept flashing. I couldn't cancel or get rid of it with ctrl-alt-del. The computer wouldn't shut down properly so I shut if off. Now when I open Learn My Dell PC, the same empty download window flashes but I've lost all information in the I Learn program, the Dell Resolution Center, and the Dell Solution Center. I also have no help files. I contacted a Dell tech and he had me uninstall and reinstall all 3 programs. Didn't help. He was supposed to get back to me with a solution, but I never heard from him again. I called again a week later and talked with someone else. He told me I have to reinstall Windows ME. I called Spire, Inc. who made these programs, and was told by them that the only way to correct this was to reinstall Explorer. Has anyone else had this problem? Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks.

I haven't had the exact same problem, but I can tell from experience (I just finishish reinstalling ME for about the sixth time today) that if anything like that is happening, your only hope is to do a total clean reinstall of Windows ME. Any time I've tried to save time by attempting a fix, it has only led to more problems. If you haven't done one before you can get a walkthrough with tech support. I ran into a lot of complications the first couple of times I did a reinstall, and for the most part the tech people were helpful (if you can get through to one). Take my advice and reinstall it - or better yet, use windows 2000 or something a bit more reliable than that piece of sh*t ME (I'm biding my time until XP is released).

XP (stands for Experience, according to Microsoft but most people believe it stands for Xtra Pain-in-the-butt) is the next version of Windows, following Windows 2000.

There are currently 2 Windows families, Windows 9x (95/98/ME, home use and small businesses - good for multimedia) and Windows NT/2000 (industrial strength for large businesses and networks). WinME is the last in that line. With the release of Windows XP, Microsoft will merge both families into this single product, both for home use as well as businesses.
