Problem with Dimension E521
Hello,
I was wondering if you could help with a problem I have been experiencing with my dimension E521 for the past couple of days. (I am not very computer literate, so if someone answers please can you explain in the simplest form possible).
Basically, when I power on the desktop, I get the following 4 error messages:
Diskette Drive 0 seek failure
Keyboard failure
Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program
Alert . System battery voltage is low
I would appreciate any help received.
Thankyou.

Hi mickad789 ,
Welcome to the Community.
I understand your concern with regards to the computer.
If the above resolution does not resolve it seems that the voltage of the battery on the motherboard is low issue due to which the settings are reverted back to default.
I would recommend you to reseat the battery on the computer and sending you the link in which you have the manual how you reseat the battery on the computer and check if that resolves the issue.
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
If not you would need to get a coin cell battery from a local store and install it on the computer. After replacing the battery go to F2 and then go to drives and change diskette drive option to off after that save and exit, check if you get any other error message.
If you have any questions further can reply back to us.

Hi,
Welcome to the Community.
For the Diskette Drive 0 seek failure problem you need to got BIOS by tapping F2 on powering on the system, once you are on BIOS the screen would look something like this:
Then you need to select drives and you need to set the floppy drive to off.Once you do this it would show up like----Off – All floppy drives are disabled.
Do restart the computer the error of diskette failure will stop coming.
For the keyboard failure ,i would suggest you to unplug and replug the keyboard cable and restart the system.
The remaining problems that you have, you need to run diagnostics by using the resource cd that came with this system.Once you insert the resource cd,turn off the system and while booting up start tapping F12,select cd/dvd drive and hit enter and quickly tap any key. Then you will get a screen wherein you need to select diagnostics. You will see dell diagnostics running, please note the error codes if any and do let us know, this will help us give a better resolution.
Please reply if anymore queries.
Thanks and Regards

Thank you for both replies. I have tried both of the suggestions, unplugging then re plugging the keyboard back in and also have changed the battery, to which both have had no effect. I have tried tapping the F2 key, however the computer does not seem to be responding to the keyboard. The same error messages are all on. Would trying a new keyboard have any effect? Or have you got any more suggestions?
Many thanks.

It seems like the problem could be related to some hardware which is causing this issue.
I would request you can contact me directly by clicking on my user name, add me as your friend, and send me the system service tag and phone # so that we check if the computer is in warranty and let you know what can be done further.
