Problems with maximum resolution u2711

Hey everyone, I just bought the Dell u2711 27 inch monitor. The problem is I cant get my macbook pro to the maximum resolution (2560 x 1440) instead, the max res i can get is 1920 x 1080 which looks awful. Tried online searching for drivers, came up empty.

Any ideas o how to get it to work?

Thanks a lot

We are not a MAC forum but whatever video card you have in your MAC needs to be replaced with one that has the resolution you want.

The problem isn't my mac. The problem is the monitor, especially the lack of driver for multiple os systems.

This is my graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. And replacing the card is much harder than providing a proper driver, wouldn't you agree?

The monitor is a "plug and play" monitor on Windows.  We are not Dell employees, just users helping users on this forum, and I can't say if it's marketed as a "plug and play" for a MAC too (and if it is, that means the MAC has the drivers built in).   Most (all) Dell products I've seen are only marketed for PC's, e.g. their printer line is only has drivers and is compatible with Windows PC's.

Not sure if you found the answer to your question but I also had problems with setting the maximum resolution with my U2711.  It turned out I wasn't using a dual link dvi cord that came with the monitor.

Hi ChipIB, I have EXACTLY the same issue you had (macbook pro with dell U2711 monitor). Can you tell me how you solved this issue?

Thanks

Hi SeunA,

Please let me know how the monitor is connected to the computer, as this monitor has a VGA DVI and an HDMI ports.

As I see that joeasian has resolved the issue by using a DVI dual link cable. Please let me know if you have tried with a DVI dual link cable.
