PSU Buzzing

Question

Bit of a strange one for you guys this one, because I already know the problem, I'm really looking for a response relating to what you think I should do about it.   Basically I have an annoying PSU. It makes a loud pitched 'buzzing' during operation. However it only seems to do it under certain conditions. For example, it will buzz when I game, or even something as simple as scrolling in a document/internet explorer. I believe its because of the extra power drawn by the CPU, because I open CPU-Z and while my CPU is idle at 2GHz its silent, as soon as it comes to process something, open something or play something etc, and the speed rises to the overclocked 3.73GHz, it starts to buzz.   The only way I've been able to stop it is by disabling O/C'ing and set the CPU to 3GHz, but this isn't a solution.   Do you think its faulty? Does your XPS 720/H2C PSU's buzz? Should I ask for a replacement unit sent? Its only a 2 month old system :smileyhappy:

Hmm, If i'm 'buzzing' from a couple of beers then I dont think I will hear my PSU Buzzing :smileyvery-happy:

But seriuosly, Yes I do here my PSU buzzing sometimes especially while gaming. I never thought about whether it was ok or not.

I dont know if it cas i dont have a Quad but i dont hear a thing on mine.Evan when overclocked running Crysis.

This is a common problem with the PSU's in the XPS 700 series. I bought my 700 over a year ago and one of the first things I've noticed was the PSU sporatically started buzzing. It can get annoying at times. If you search the forums, you will find many post regarding this issue. I believe many XPS 700 owners have contacted Dell and their PSU was replaced. I have yet to call Dell to have mine replaced, but will do so when my warranty comes to a close.

Thanks alot for the reply man. I also might take advantage of my warranty and ring for a replacement. Its really annoying - its not the loudness that's annoying, its the pitch of the noise, I'm sure its the same for you.

My first impression what that its probably a low quality PSU, which is probably turning out to be the case.

If I get a replacement will they require the old one back? Just because I'll have to strip the system in advance...

I also have this problem John, I have a XPS 720 H2C, I posted about it in the stickied thread about 420's.
