Question About POST Lights

Dear DCF Members who are willing to help me,

I have an Dimension 5150, 1 year and a half.  I have a question concerning about the POST lights on boot.  The boot lights flash on the booting sequence ( Dell splash screen).  The final result is 1 2 3 which is not normal and my friend told me that because I don't have a floppy installed.  Is he right?

Thank you if you can help me, - DK000.

Have you tried the suggested remedies?  Not having a floppy drive, IMHO, would not cause this sequence unless the boot order does call for booting from a floppy disk in the bios.

dk000, also if you don't have a floppy drive then make sure the Diskette Drive option in the BIOS is turned Off.

See if the following helps, scroll down to "Diskette Drives",

When your machine is booted up and the Dell logo appears, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup.  In the Drives menu select the Diskette Drive.  Just turn this option Off.   Then exit the BIOS, saving your changes.

Dear DCF reply members,

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the long reply.  How do I turn off the "boot floppy" feature in the DIMENSION5150 BIOS?
Any continued support would be appreciated.

Thank you for reply  _DK000

Dear DCF reply members,

Thank you for your help.  The "turning-off floppy drive" method does not work for me.  If that doesn't work, then what else?
Do I have to call DELL to obtain a new motherboard? I hope not because that would cause too much work and I don't want to get through all that Indian support.
Thanks for any continued support!!

If turning off the Diskette Drive option didn't correct the problem then I would suggest trying some of the other recommendations offered in that Service Manual link that Europa303 directed you to earlier.  If none of the additional recommendations work then your only other option is to give Dell a call.
