Go to the Crucial website, and use their 'Memory Advisor Tool'.

It'll tell you what type - and how much RAM it accepts :emotion-5:

Hello naiju84,

The XPS 730X will not take high voltage RAM due to limitations set my Intel for the processor chip.  If you check the specs on the Dell Technical Specs for the XPS 730X you will find:

 Tri-Channel DDR3 SDRAM system Memory3

Three (3) user-accessible DIMM slots
3GB DDR3 1066MHz (3 x 1GB DIMMs)
6GB DDR3 1066MHz (3 x 2GB DIMMs)
See here:
If you put a higher voltage/MHz RAM you might void your warranty, but my advice is to follow Dell's instructions to maintain the integrity of your processor and warranty.
Best,
Darrell WV

Rehi naiju84,  No I am not telling you that the XPS 730X will not accept the 1333MHz, I have see a few posts where people have done that, what I said is that your Dell warranty will not cover the processor, there is a big difference in what you might do and what has been validated to work and maintain your warranty.

I would think that you would be able to run your rig with the Patriot Viper One with a latency of 9, but I am not a Dell representative or employee, so my saying you can or can not is meaningless to your warranty.   But basically it is your rig, you can do whatever you want to do with it.  I personally have done a few things to my rig, like adding a fan or two, but I never give advice that I know will void someones warranty without telling them, because if it breaks it is not my responsibility.

Best,

Darrell WV

THANK YOU MAN!!!!!!!! THANK YOU.I have been searching for this thing all over the web.All the sites have stuff about the xps 730 but not the xps 730x.Thank you again.Would it hurt my processor though and upto how many GBs could I go?

No, it will not hurt your processor. If it would, Dell wouldn't list it as being compatible because there would be numerous warranty claims if or when things began to foul out. The XPS 730x can hold up to 6gb of DDR3-1800 ram. However, I would recommend the DDR3-1600 because the 1800 is waaaaaay expensive! By expensive, I mean it's over $500 for the Corsair Dominator triple channel kit, DDR3-1800 (3 x 2gb)

This is what I purchased for my 730x.

Corsair Dominator Triple Channel kit (3 x 2gb) on Newegg - $184

Hey PH3NOM,

Where are you getting this information?  I have found no Dell resource that states this information.  The Dell specs pages clearly state that the 1066 MHz is the limit of operation for the Dell MOBO.  You can not use aftermarket MOBO specs to assume that the Dell board will run them.

"The XPS 730X will not take high voltage RAM due to limitations set my Intel for the processor chip.  If you check the specs on the Dell Technical Specs for the XPS 730X you will find:

 Tri-Channel DDR3 SDRAM system Memory3

See here:

If you have been following the XPS Studio thread, you will see several references to the Dell Core i7 MOBO limitations on RAM to 1066, even when higer speed RAM is put into the rig, it will still default to the 1066.  The Dell XPS 730X does not run like the regular old XPS 730!
Best,
Darrell WV

Hey PH3NOM,

Where are you getting this information?  I have found no Dell resource that states this information.

I spoke with Dell_Chris M about this and his reply about whether the 730/730x would work with DDR3-1600 was Dell never tested the DDR3-1600 ram on the 730 but that it should work. However, it's safe to say that if the XPS 730 can accommodate DDR3-1800, it can certainly accommodate DDR3-1600.
