Re memory error 2000-0123
OMG, I have this problem and I am in a panic! I was told that my hard drive was failing.. Can this be true or as I read here it is memory which would be a lot easier to fix. Can I just replace the memory. I have a desktop XPS8100' i7' 12 GB RAM ' 1 TB. I don't even know how many memory slots I have. But I have been stressed for two days thinking my hard drive is crashing. Any help will,be appreciated.. My. Computer started to run really slow. Hanging to open anything and just sitting, waiting for any page to load. Impossible to get anything done. HELP PLEASE!

Hi shammrockk,
Error code 2000-0123 indicates a possible memory/memory slot failure. To fix this issue we need to reseat the memory sticks on the mother board and restart the computer.

Running the hardware diagnostics can help in checking if there is any hardware problem. Follow the steps below to run hardware diagnostics.
1. Restart the computer.
2. Keep tapping the F12 key on the Dell Logo Screen.
3. From the One time boot menu select Diagnostics and Press Enter.
4. It runs a test on all the hardware components.
5. If it test fails, please capture the error code and let me know the error code, I would tell you the next course of action.
Please post the results.

Thank you Nikhil for getting back to me. I did as you said and I get the same error message - 2000-0123 integrity memory test failed. I am somewhat relieved that it is not my hard drive. This is my first Dell. I had Sony's before this but heard good things about Dell and the price was right. I am running window 7 Ultimate, I-7, 12GB ram, 1 TB hard drive. I bought an extended warauntty and only called Dell once in the very beginning about upgrading windows. I cannot beleive that it expired on DEC 31st!
Is this something I can do or do I need to get someone to do this and is it expensive? Right now the computer seems to be running a little better and not hangin on every page, but still get the "not responding" if I am doing more than one thing. Again thaks for getting back to me so quickly. You cannot imagine all I have to do and this is very stressful. A wedding video in the works that I really need to work on. :-(

Hi Nikhil,
I did as you said and got the same error code -- 2000-0123 intergrity memory test fail. Can I do this myself? Do I need help? Is it expensive? Adn what causes this to happen. And is it my understanding that my hard drive is ok just the memory cards? Thank you for an answer..I do appreciate it!

If the ram is bad its just a matter of replacing it with good ram. If the slot is damaged this would require replacing the motherboard which is expensive.

Thank you for your answer. Every bit of knowledge helps me. What makes ram go bad and or a slot? This is a first for me.

Hi shammrockk,
There could be multiple reasons behind a Ram failure. If the memory is really old then it could just be wearing out.If it is new, it may be a bad piece of silicon. Some RAM that boots up fine still has bad sectors and will cause memory errors.
Over voltage can damage RAM. If you were trying to overlook it is possible that the memory is damaged.

Hi Nikhil,
Thank you for your response. I do not overclock. Just using my computer for everyday use. It is only 2 years old. I have one last question. How do I know which ram card is bad. According to my paperwork I have TWO 2 GB and TWO 4 GB. How do I know which one has to be replaced? Thanks, shammrockk

Hi shammrockk,
To identify which memory if the faulty one, we can try to check one memory at a time in each memory slot and try to boot the computer and check it is working fine.
The computer will not boot with the faulty memory stick.
Please reply for any further help.
