In the future, by using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

You don't uninstall Windows XP HOME EDITION.  You can install a fresh copy or repair the old copy, or make the comptuer "as shipped".

Systems shipped after July 15, 2004 came with Symantec PC Restore. This utility restores the computer to an "as-shipped" condition. If you haven't reformatted, repartitioned, or otherwise modified the master boot record, it should work. Click here for instructions about Symantec PC Restore.

Yes I have seen that and have already done a restore.  I am still having problems.  I have also read through that form and it is not very helpful in my opinion.

Oh ok well I guess you may be right.  Guess those two are different.  The problem is that the computer won't except my product key number's.  I have also tryed to do that with the dell.

Your posts are very non-specific.  Windows does not require a product key on your Dell.  You need to provide EXACT info as to what is wrong, what you're trying to do, etc.

If you used Windows System Restore, that's very different than Dell PC Restore by Symantec.  If you did the latter, and you are still having problems, then you need to post EXACTLY what the problems are.

Wicked7000,

Since specifics are not available, simply do a full clean reinstallation of Windows. The procedures for this are here and in the included links.

My computer is a Dem2400 by Dell.  Which has windows XP Home Addition.  Files and other info has been damaged and I can't seem to find a way to replace it or fix it.  I would so appreciate it if someone can give me some advice that I can use to repair it and restore it back to it's original form so i can stop having all these malfunctions.  I has a secirity breach on Feb. 7th, 2006.  According to AOL Spyware.  I was having problems before that but thought nothing of it.  Now the computer keeps telling me that some stuff is running when it isn't even installed.  I have looked high and low for them.  This computer was new when I received it so i was wondering how to get it back to it's original state?

That is step by step help.  If you find it too complicated, I'd suggest that you bring your computer to a local shop and have them work on it for you.  Last try below:

Reboot.  When you see the Dell screen, hit CTRL F11.  Say yes when it asks you if you want to erase everything and make it "as shipped".

I have no other info or advice I can give you, sorry.

Back at the beginning of this post I suggested that if your computer was bought after 7/15/04, you simply use Dell PC Restore by Symantec.  You didn't respond to that.  Why?

It is not a CD, it's a key combination that makes your comptuer "as shipped".

Nothing like it, not even remotely.
