Remove items from task bar

Question

How do I remove items from starting in my task bar? I found the list of things being started in the system information, but I can't pick one and delete it. I use Windows 2000 Professional.
Thanks in advance.

Oh......and is there a way to see the percentage of resources availiable like there used to be in windows 95 but on on Windows 2000 Professional?

and try start>run>perfmon it's a line graph that is very similar to free resources
