Restart problem- adding USB LexmarkP707

I have installed a Lexmark P707 via a USB port.  Everything seems fine - I have downloaded an updated driver but the problem is - every time I restart the computer with the USB plugged in - It comes up with the Blue www.dell.com screen.  At this point I can't do anything except unplug the USB and then it starts properly.  After I have the computer started - I can plug in the USB and the printer works.....Please help - Why doesn't my computer restart properly with the USB connected?  I have a DELL Dimension 4400.  Thanks.

Check the BIOS (setup) and if it has an option for "USB No Boot" or some similar statement, select that option.  If the BIOS is looking for a bootable USB device, that can cause it to hang.

Thank you - I am "decent" with computers but the BIOS is one area that I do not know well.  Can you help me by telling me how I would check if the BIOS is looking for a bootable USB?  I just upgraded from BIOS A05 to A06 last night thinking that might solve the problem but it didn't.  Thanks.

To disable this behavior, enter the System Setup (BIOS) by pressing the F2 key while the blue Dell logo is on the screen, open the Integrated Devices category, and change the USB Emulation option to No BOOT. Save your changes and exit the BIOS.

Thanks Cody but there isn't any USB Emulation in my setup.  Only USB Legacy & it is enabled which is what the dell help desk told me to do.  Didn't work either.  - Now I was told by a friend that possibly the printer is calling for more power than the USB can handle so I borrowed a powered USB HUB - When I go into the system on control panel - the printer & card reader(on printer) state that they are on a generic usb hub that only has 100mA per port and the Reader req. 100mA & the Printing support req. 4mA.  And yet there is another generic hub listed that says it is self powered and has 500mA per port.  SOOOO I thought ok - go to the back of my computer & switch where I have the cable plugged in to the other USB port.  Well it seems the darn computer switches because it still says that the one that is linked to the reader & printer isn't the self powered one & yet I have the usb for the printer going through the self powered hub....?????  Needless to say - I don't get this !  HELP!!
