ring buffer in mouse

I get in my event viewer the error   The ring buffer that stores incoming mouse data has overflowed. I am using windows xp. How can I fix this error. My mouse is acting crazy and not responding right.

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums.

Make sure that you are using the latest software for your mouse.  If the latest software or reinstalling the software do not work you will need to edit the mouse cache size in the registry.

Click on Start then Run and type in regedit and press Enter or click ok.

look for the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Mouclass\Parameters

look for the following entry in the above key


MouseDataQueueSize REG_DWORD >= 0x1

Double click on it and to edit, select decimal view and change the value to a higher number.  The default is 100 try changing it to 200 close the registry and restart the system to see if it helps.

Thanks Mel ,

My mouse is a ps/2 compatable that came on my 4300  2 years ago I dont know where to find the latest software. I did take your second suggestion ,and it seems to have helped. I was very nervous though I had never been in the registry before. Again thanks.
