screensaver does not work with Microsoft wireless mouse

Was wondering if anyone knows why the screensavers in Windows XP won't work with the Microsoft wireless optical mouse? Is there a fix? Thank you.

Found the answer to my question. Had my wireless mouse plugged in using the USB plug. Still had my wired mouse plugged into the PS/2 port. Unplugged the wired mouse and plugged in the wireless using the PS/2 adaptor.Screensaver now works.

I have the same problem only I am unable to resolve it using that method.

Dell Inspiron 9300
Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A
Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0

The screensaver will not come on while the wireless receiver is plugged into
the USB port. The Dell 9300 does not have any PS2 ports for me to use so I
am looking for another solution.

I am having a very similar problem. I have a brand new DIM 9100 running XP Pro and I am using a MS optical wireless mouse, also, but my screensaver will only work if set to activate at 1 minute.......no other settings work.  The same holds true for the power management options.   I guess I should consider myself lucky?????   I will try a wired mouse and report the results.

Thanks for your posts on this matter.

Thanks, HZAWIL, your post was exactly the information that I had been searching for.  I also narrowed the problem down to the wireless mouse as all was fine when using an old wired PS2 mouse.   However, it seems that the problem is only with the MS wireless mouse!   I just bought the new Logitech Laser mouse and I'm happy to report no problems.

I am having the same problem. I have Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite and my screen saver does not activate. I resolved it to a conflict between the wireless desktop and 2 processes that run at startup. These are: ehtray and DVDlauncher. If you kill both of these processes via Task manager then the screen saver works fine on my system. I contacted Microsoft support on this issue and they are aware of the problem. But they were not sure if they're gonna have a fix for it.
MS support told me to deactivate both of these processes (ehtray and DVDLauncher) using msconfig, and this should solve the problem as a workaround untill they get a fix for it. Hope this helps.
