Setting up new computer

We just got a new Dimension 8200 Series Pentium 4 and I just want to find out how to move all my stuff from the old computer. I run a business and have Quick Books and CLIPPRO and I need to be sure I do not screw anything up. DO I have to copy everything to a floppy? They sometimes don't work very well. I have tape drive on the old one and CD writer on the new one. Thanks, Liz

Well, you could always install the programs on the new machine, then go into dos on the old one and just copy the "data" files to floppies using the XCOPY command. It won't take that long. You might have to copy 2-5 files at a time. Hey, it works....

oops, disregard my post...I was thinking if a machine crashed...I have that on my brain.... Yes, just use floppies. You don't have a choice sine the other machine doesn't have a cdr. There are always ways to connect the pc's, but way too much trouble just to copy data files. Hey, you cloud always zip up the files and email them to an account, then email them back to the new machine, that's a thought...

If your machine came with XP installed it will be quite simple. All you have to do is use the "File & Settings transfer Wizard". It will thru step by step for you. Be advised that it will only xfer files & settings. Any applications will have to be reinstalled.
