The other suggestion is regarding the XP installation disc. Once you have installed the operating system, you can remove this disc from the drive. It appears your system is set up to boot from the CD/DVD drive, and as long as the XP disc is in the drive, your system is going to boot from the reinstallation disc.
Hi OSPREY4 Thanks for your reply. tried that and the sata harddrive was just making a noise for about 3 seconds then just went back to the dell boot screen.but after about 3 times of going through the install procedure it finaly worked.thanks for your help and advice.Cheers

Hi Dodi1,
I have two suggestions. If you want to start over, here is the manual installation procedure for Windows XP.
The other suggestion is regarding the XP installation disc. Once you have installed the operating system, you can remove this disc from the drive. It appears your system is set up to boot from the CD/DVD drive, and as long as the XP disc is in the drive, your system is going to boot from the reinstallation disc.
Hope that helps.
