Should I enable Hyperthreading?

I was enabling my soundcard in "setup" yesterday when I noticed that "hyperthreading" was "disabled" I was under the impression that, I wanted hyperthreading activated. Can someone give me some advice? I have a Dimension 4700 with a Pentim 4 processor 550 with HT technology (3.4 ghz). I have 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM and I am running windows XP media center edition.

Thanks,

That depends on whether or not you need it.

I would recommend you read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperthreading and make your decision.

You probably do want it enabled.
It will allow you to task switch much smoother than without and has very little draw backs.

I've never noticed any difference in operating a D-8400 with hyperthreading disabled or enabled.

Wow never?
I usually do CD burns or song ripping while browsing and I could always tell when it was off, well it never was once I had an HT capable computer.

Maybe it's because, I'm using a dial-up ISP, but as posted, I've not seen any difference.

That could be but I am pretty sure I had it enable when I was on dialup but I can't remember.
It was in '01 when I was able to get broadband so what ever CPU was out then.
