Shut down error message, Help!!!

I have actually removed a scanner and the related software and drivers. As well as some old kids games software. I added an HP all in one printer/scanner/copier and related software/drivers but that has been after this problem. Is there a chance something I removed had a shared file or something that is needed? Most generally we shut down JUNO which is our dial up ISP right before we shut down system and have done that for literally years. Thanks so much for working with me on this. Kevin

Are there other applications that you normally run that have already been shut down at before you attempt to shutdown the computer?  If so, then perhaps one of these programs fails to shut down the dde process.  In general, only older programs use this.  Have you added anything to your hardware or software environment recently that could have caused this problem?

To troubleshoot this problem, close all Windows, then hit the Cntrl-Alt-Delete key at the same time to ring up the running task window.  This should show a list of programs running in the background.  Write down all programs on the list and post the list here.

I have shut all down except for Systray & Explorer and ran scandisk and still had same problem. FYI

I was just reminded of another problem that might possibly be related. If we close our browser prior to logging off the internet it will lock up JUNO at which time I have to Ctrl, Alt., Del. and end task on JUNO. Related you think???
